Championing Inclusion in Logan and Beyond
As a Paralympian, consultant, author, and advocate, Matt Levy OAM has long been a powerful force in promoting equity, inclusion, and accessibility across Australia. In his current role as a Diversity and Inclusion Advisor to raise awareness and education, and assist employers to employ people from diverse communities to fill their job vacancies. Matt brings lived experience and strategic insight to help shape a more inclusive sport and active recreation workforce.
Building Inclusive Systems That Last
Matt has worked across local councils, national bodies, and grassroots organisations to embed inclusive practices that break down barriers for people with disability, culturally diverse communities, and underrepresented groups. Through his advisory work, he helps organisations assess accessibility, improve recruitment pathways, and foster inclusive workplace cultures.
“I believe inclusion isn’t just about ticking a box,” says Matt. “It’s about creating real pathways and spaces where every person feels they belong – and that starts with listening to community needs and acting on them.”
Engagement in the Logan Community
Logan holds a special place in Matt’s work. As part of AQIA’s regional activation initiatives, he’s led inclusive workshops, supported emerging leaders with disability, and partnered with local sport and recreation clubs to build capability around diversity and inclusive recruitment.
Earlier this year, Matt helped deliver a networking morning tea in Logan, bringing together over 60 community sport organisations to explore practical ways to grow participation from marginalised communities. His efforts helped spark new connections, conversations, and collaborations that are now driving change at the local level.
Matt also contributes to Logan’s long-term legacy goals through strategic engagement aligned with Brisbane 2032. “The lead-up to the Games presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine how inclusion is embedded in sport, from talent development through to grassroots access,” he shares.
Looking Ahead
Matt continues to support AQIA’s work through state-wide partnerships, policy development, and mentoring programs that amplify the voices of lived experience. He remains focused on ensuring that regional communities like Logan are not left behind in broader reform efforts.
From swimming on the world stage to shaping systems here at home, Matt’s vision is clear: a Queensland where every person, regardless of ability or background, has a fair go.
