The Active Industry First Start Traineeships are an incredible opportunity for not-for-profit community clubs or organisations to receive a $20,000 wage subsidy for 12 months’ of full-time employment of an eligible jobseeker.
This program operates under the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. And we are delighted to announce that AQIA can help you with your application and submit it to the government on your behalf!
So if your organisation, like so many in the sports and fitness industry, is relying heavily on volunteers and a skeleton staff to get things done at your community club, this is your chance to bring on someone keen to learn and contribute…without breaking your budget.
Will your next trainee be a school leaver? Or maybe a mum returning to work? Someone over 45, or a disabled person? A veteran, or a refugee? There’s so much potential out there.

First Start primarily targets young Queensland school leavers and disadvantaged job seekers considered at risk of enduring long periods of unemployment, including:
Young people: (15-25 years)
Long-term unemployed job seekers
Mature age job seekers (45+)
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
Migrants and refugees from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
People with disability
Displaced workers
Women re-entering the workforce
Veterans, ex ADF personnel and their families
*Note that a new role must be created for this traineeship. You cannot use a First Start Traineeship for an existing eligible employee unless their existing role is backfilled.
