Adept Economics has released its 2024 Report: Economic, Social and Health Impacts
of Sport and Active Recreation in Queensland.

The sport and active recreation sector provide large benefits to Queenslanders, through various economic and social channels.

Adept Economics has released its 2024 Report: Economic, Social and Health Impacts of Sport and Active Recreation in Queensland, and the data shows the powerful economic, social and health benefits of our industry.

Key Points:

  • Total economic, social and health benefits are estimated to be $43.9 billion, an amount equivalent to around 9.8% of Gross State Product (GSP).
  • The sport and active recreation sector, directly and indirectly, supports economic activity and jobs across Queensland.
  • Sport and active recreation are estimated to make an economic contribution of around $8.2 billion per annum, or nearly 1.8% of GSP.
  • The sport and active recreation sector directly supports the employment of around 48,000 Queenslanders and, directly and indirectly, of over 84,000 Queenslanders, or 3.1% of all employed people.
